Deal Nearly Complete to Bring UFC Back to New Jersey

By: Kris Karkoski | Jun 1, 2007

According to MMAFrenzy.com sources, the UFC is close to signing a deal to bring the UFC back to New Jersey this November. For those who check out our UFC rumors section often, UFC 78 has been listed as taking in place for New Jersey for some time, although it now appears the event will happen in Newark, New Jersey at the yet-to-be-completed Prudential Center.

The 18,000 arena will house the New Jersey Devils NHL franchise and the Seton Hall NCAA Men’s Basketball team. It is expected to be completed in October of this year making the UFC event (currently believed to be UFC 78) one of the first major events held at the venue.

The UFC’s last event in the state was UFC 53: Heavy Hitters in June of 2005.

At this point there are no rumored fights for the event, although the superfight between Dan Henderson and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is set for this fall meaning UFC 77 (currently rumored for Cincinnati, Ohio) or UFC 78 may be potential events for the fight.
