winded a lil chuck?? im a lil upset with the iceman. you looked bad chuck……….
The “Goocher” has finally won a couple of bets. I can’t believe “Shogun” looked so out of shape and out classed by Griffin. Good for Griffin. But….. I am affraid he won’t have the same success against “The Ax Murderer”. That is the logical match up now wouldn’t all of you agree? Or I guess Jardine could face him, but even with the win I thought he looked a little sloppy. Congratulations to the both of them and their huge victorys. The day of the “Iceman” has ended. It seems the only person who’s game translated from the ring to the “Octagon” is Rampage. Hopefully Fedor gets signed soon before Couture retires. And hopefully Shogun, and his brother can come back from their loses.
I think there are a lot of possible matchups going ahead and I think Jardine, Forrest, Wanderlei, and Houston Alexander are all in the mix. I put Alexander in becuase his crushed his competition including someone who just decisioned the former champ in Liddell which has to count for something. I’d lost to see any combination of matches in the division but I wouldn’t mind seeing someone who can take a punch like Griffin face Alexander and Jardine fight Wanderlei though I ultimately think the UFC will still have Chuck fight Wandy in December. I’ll address the scenarios more tomorrow in my recap.
I was not disappointed with Chuck in the least. I thought he had some opportunities he missed but given the punishment he got I thought he put on a good show and showed he’s still legitimate. It’s hard to call either guy the loser (even though Jardine did win) as both put on a good display and both deserve solid contenders in their next bout.
The main reason Jardine won is because he put so much distance in between him and Chuck, everytime Chuck came in Keith made him pay for it. I was hoping that Chuck would have taken Keith down, that would have been awesome b/c then we would have seen just how well rounded of a fighter Chuck really is. The fact that he continued to stand with Keith, was not a good choice.
The Sanchez/Fitch fight, I believe, could have went either way. It was really close. Both were very closely matched with ground skills. I hated to see Sanchez lose again, no disrespect to Fitch.
Yeah Chucks game plan seemed off. Why not either press the action harder or change it up and shoot for a takedown. Jardine had Liddell from the get-go with his plan on using leg kicks.
I definitely felt Fitch won the fight but Sanchez has a long way to go now with back to back losses. I tink Parisyan, Koscheck and Fitch will have to duke it out for the welterweight spot behind GSP.
Kris your right about chuck….im just sad. Well…if Hughes loses to Serra…I dont know what I will do.
Jesus… How could Shogun be so out of shape. Seriously, what in the f*** was that about? That was just a horrid performance by him.
Shockingly, every other fight on the card was well worth it. Solid fights, no bad calls (except the one retarded judge that called the fight 29-28 FOR CHUCK…..)
I want less people that post to talk about how the “pride fighters have had a hard time transitioning over to the ufc.” because something just had to not be right with Shogun, Mirko just bottomed out a while ago (and it’s been noticeable) and really those are the only names someone could name who have done bad..who have done good: Rampage, Anderson Silva. ya.
” Jesus… how could Shogun be so out of shape? “….maybe, just maybe now if you look at most of the fighters from Pride. Shogun, Mirko and the Axe that have either fought in the UFC or Pride here in Vegas. they all looked alot smaller or softer!!!! no testing as far as i know in Pride! i don’t think that Shogun fighting a high profile first fight in the UFC and in the US would take a chance on failing a ” Test ” ??? anyone else have thoughts on this???
The Forrest Griffin vs. Mauricio Rua match was awesome. I was happy to be right about that fight. I predicted the Griffin vs. Rua fight to go Griffin’s way with it being the second biggest upset of the year. I think that with this win; Forrest will fight Rampage next for the title. Who else would the UFC put against Rampage? I think it makes sense from a marketing perspective for the UFC because all the TUF fans and the many other Forrest Griffin fans would tune into that fight to see him fight for the title. I can’t think of anyone else that can fight Rampage for the title besides Forrest. He just beat the number one consensus 205 pound fighter in the world; what else does Forrest have to do?
What I did not predict is the third biggest upset of the year with Jardine beating Liddell. I still have faith in Liddell; he is still my favorite fighter. I was heartbroken to see him lose. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, when Keith knocked Liddell down to one knee. Thank God Liddell recovered or else he could have gotten ground and pounded like Jardine did to Forrest. Stylisticall, I think Jardine was a bad match up for Liddell and Jardine kept running away from Liddell. Two counter stikers fought last night and it went Jardine’s way. I think if Liddell stopped Jardine’s leg kicks, maybe Liddell could have stole a round and maybe he could have got a unanimous decision victory in his favor winning two rounds to one. I wanted to see Liddell fight Wanderlei so bad. Wanderlei looked disappointed, too. I guess we gotta wait even longer now to see that fight?
2007 is definately the year of upsets. Some can even view the Fitch vs. Sanchez as sort of an upset since Fitch is not a big name. I thought Fitch would win, but other MMA fans that don’t know who Fitch is might have thought Sanchez would win.
I got another upset that will happen. I am predicting Rich Franklin to regain his Middleweight title. He will show to everyone that Anderson Silva is human. Most people are counting Franklin out; they shouldn’t. Rich has to be even more motivated to see all these underdogs winning fights with Couture beating Syliva, Serra beating GSP, Gonzaga beating Cro Cop, Rampage beating Liddell, Couture beating Gonzaga, Griffin beating Rua and Jardine beating Liddell. Rich Franklin will win against Silva. He will have a new game plan; he will execute it and will reclaim what was his and that is the Middelweight title.

thats a very good point i never thought of that. and yes SOME ” pride fighters are having a hard time.” it showed last night. some of them cant deal with the cage.jackson had a lot of cage fights and i know anderson did too.
No, they don’t “MMA LasVegas”. Get educated on the substance you’re trying to imply the ex-PrideFC fighters used before you say something that people maybe, just maybe consider stupid. Shogun is soft makes about as much since as if you said you are an English major at Harvard. Tapping out Randleman (the guy who obviously juices and in another weight class as Shogun.) IN Las Vegas where all fighters are tested and Shogun tested clean.
I am not (and will never) accuse anyone of using steroids unless they test positive but it’s a known fact that PRIDE didn’t test at their shows in Japan. It may or may not be the case that some of their fighters used performance enhancing drugs so I have to say this is one argument that comes into play when discussing the lack of success pride fighters have had in the UFC.
the iceman is done put a fork in him opponents have figured out his fight game and exposed him good luck in the future chuck you will be a great broadcaster but its time to hang up the gloves
Rich Franklin will get his belt back! We do need more fighters in middleweight division. It needs to be more like the 205.
In no way was Fitch over Sanchez an upset. Diego needs to drop a weight class. He is extremely talented, but just not srong enough. Fitch man handeled him. And I hope this is the last time I have to say this, but Rapage has beaten Chuck twice now. His last win was in no way an upset. The first time they fought, he destroyed Chuck. I can’tbelieve Vegas is still putting such huge odds on MMA fights. This is really the one sport where anything can happen.
Thank you FixXcer! I agree Rich Franklin will get his belt back. I don’t know how he will win, but he will get his title back from Anderson Silva. That fight will be awesome.
Who said that they didn’t test? I know for a fact that they did not ever test one fighter when they were back in Japan too, point?. It’s more than clear on some fighters that they did in recent past and earlier days of PrideFC. The fighters who fought for PrideFC when they did the shows in the USA were ALL tested when they did the two shows, two fighters tested positive (one ex-UFC fighter and the other ex-UFC fighter used animal piss to obviously hide it.), Shogun did not test positive, out-grappled and submitted one of the people who failed the test..who was CLEARLY larger than Shogun. All this talk about Forest being a “way bigger fighter than Shogun has ever stepped into the ring with” is just lies and propaganda brought to you by the UFC-hype machine.
I think it’s a well known fact that PRIDE did not test for steroids because they were not illegal in Japan. They did test for some things but it’s one of the biggest criticisms of PRIDE is that not everything was tested for.
I don’t see how either one of these were split decisions; both should’ve been unanimous.
Seems like Fitch and Parisyan should fight for the next in line, since Kos just lost the chance with his loss to GSP. Then have the loser fight Kos for the next shot; but I don’t think he would do any good against either one. Go Fitch!!
No way will Franklin ever be able to beat Silva, just like Liddel will never be able to beat Jackson. Silva is a beast and will have the belt for a looong time. What will be cool is after Silva defeats Franklin again, they anounce a unification for the middle weight division with Henderson.
Fitch-Parisyan on the December card would have been my bet. The fact he’s fight Lombard really came out of nowhere in my opinion. Not that it’s a bad matchup but I expected Parisyan to fight someone more well known and a fellow top contender like Fitch would have fit the bill perfectly. Given this matchup I’d venture a guess that Fitch is ahead of Parisyan in the line for a welterweight title shot.
Just like Chuck, say goodbye to Rich.
Choke,er…Chuck deserved to lose. He left his arsenal at the bar. He was too one dimensional while jardine brought it.
I agree KenDog, I was waiting in anticipation for Chuck to take Keith down and possibly submit him or ground-n-pound. That would have been new and exciting to see Chuck do something like that, and have proved how much of a well rounded fighter he is. Yes, he likes to stick to his bread and butter by banging on a guy, but if it doesn’t work, use your other weapons in the arsenal. I hate to say it, but maybe Chuck was being a bit cocky, by insisting on standing up with Keith.
I feel bad for chuck. As far as Rich….cmon now. You know he is a great fighter….he will get his title back.
Yes, Rich F. is pretty damn good and I like him, but I think he’s got to fight at the top of his game in order to take Anderson Silva.
