UFC 79: Doug Evans Added To Fight Card
Doug Evans will be returning to the UFC on December 29th at UFC 79 MMAFrenzy.com has confirmed. An opponent is believed to be in place but cannot be disclosed until the official bout agreement is signed.
Evans came to the UFC in June to take on rising UFC lightweight Roger Huerta on the finale of The Ultimate Fighter 5. Despite Evans controlling the first round of the bout Huerta came back strong in round 2 and was able to finish Evans off by TKO midway through the round. Prior to the loss Evans was undefeated, winning all five of his fights in the Alaska Fighting Championship promotion.
He joins a card that is headlined by a Welterweight Championship Match between Matt Serra and Matt Hughes. Other fighters rumored to be on the card are Wanderlei Silva, Josh Koscheck, Roger Huerta, Luke Caudillo, Dean Lister, and Jordan Radev. The card may also feature a lightweight title bout featuring BJ Penn and Joe Stevenson. The fight hinges on current champion Sean Sherk’s appeal in front of the California State Athletic Commission in October for a positive steroid test. If his appeal fails he will be stripped of the title and Penn will likely Stevenson for the vacant championship.

He seems to be a decent fighter. I was getting worried he was going to beat Huerta, but Huerta beat him. I am not exactly too excited about Jordan Radev and Dean Lister fighting each other. I would have been excited about McFedries vs. Lister.
How about this: Instead of Parisyan fighting at UFC 78; have Parisyan fight Koscheck at UFC 79. That should be a really good fight.
I think Kos vs. Parisyan is highly likely or Fitch vs. Parisyan. With Fitch having just fought and without any other top-notch opponents for Parisyan available in November I think he will get moved to the December card but nothing to report just yet.
As far as McFedries goes, he is going to be out until next Summer/Fall due to the staph infection he got. I think he has a lot of potential with his two losses by Nate Quarry and Kampmann. I will keep an eye on him and when he plans on making his return.
Thanks for the update Kris. I would love to see a rematch of McFedries vs. Quarry. The Pete Sell/Nate Quarry fight was great; I think Quarry fighting McFedries would be great, too. Any word on who or when Minotauro is fighting? Also, any word on Arlovski?
Perhaps I spoke too soon. There are rumors that Karo will be fighting Hector Lombard at UFC 78 in New Jersey. I am in the process of confirming the rumors and will pass along news as soon as I know for sure.
This card shaping up to be pretty good. Can’t wait to see Wanderlei back in action.
Hey thanks Kris for the heads up on the Randy story… much appreciated.
This is a guy I can’t wait to see again. I couldn’t believe how dominant he was in that first round with Huerta. I hope his opponent is an established well know fighter so that he can really be sized up in the division.
I agree, he looked impressive in the first round and he sure seems to have the talent to be a good fighter in the UFC. I’m interested to learn who he’s going to face in December.
I like that Red. Kos vs Karo.
I get the feeling he will fight a guy from Season 5 of the Ultimate Fighter. Maybe a guy like Brandon Melendez or Andy Wang.
I think this would be too tough of a fight for Cory Hill in his Octagon debut on PPV, even if it is an undercard fight. Kris, any word on when we might see Cory Hill in the UFC?
Melendez is a possibility but Hill might be the most likely. I don’t think we will see Wang in the UFC for a while (provided he wins in other organizations). I haven’t heard anything about Hill for a while though I would venture a guess he will be fighting in November or December. Remember he was injured which is why he didn’t fight on the TUF 5 finale. I’ll work to see if I can find an exact date.
[...] UFCDaily.com is reporting that Doug Evans will be fighting in a preliminary match on the UFC 79 undercard on Dec. [...]
I think Joe Daddy could beat BJ….I would loooove to see that fight.
Joe Daddy looked good in his last fight, but BJ Penn would be his Daddy if they fight.
Thanks Kris. I really appreciate how you address all the commenters’ questions. Hill has so much untapped potential. I think if he has the hunger and drive; he could really be a force to be reckoned with in the Lightweight Division. Thanks again Kris.
Yes, and Hill has been training with MFS…mainly Jeremy Horn…so you know his skills have only gotten better. He can be a monster in that weight divsion.
Doug Evans took that fight on short notice, usually he has GREAT cardio. He trains harder than anyone in the state and comes from a great camp of fighters in the Wolf Pack led by Kevin Barber in Amchorage, AK. Look for Evans to make a HUGE splash in the UFC!!
Jason Hutchings
Absolutely Jason, he has a great camp and looked good in his debut, despite taking the loss. Obviously its hard to take any fight on short notice but when the UFC calls you to take on their poster boy you know it’s going to be even tougher. I hope to see him matched with someone else who is newer to the UFC so Evans can get used to the atmosphere and not be overwhelmed. I am not saying he doesn’t have the skills to beat the top guys but it’d be best for everyone to give him a more level matchup in his first bout since the loss.
does anyone know where drew fickett has been? i think he is a great fighter that ALWAYS brings excitement… also where is arlovski? and where is undefeated jake o brein?
