UFC 78: Joe Doerksen To Face Herman

By: Kris Karkoski | Nov 3, 2007

The UFC has announced that veteran Joe Doerksen will take the place of an injured David Terrell for a main card bout against Ed Herman at UFC 78 later this month:

Veteran middleweight contender Joe Doerksen has decided to step up to face the Ultimate Fighter 3 finalist on November 17th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Doerksen (39-10), a native of New Bothwell, Manitoba, Canada, will be returning to the UFC for the first time since his March 2006 bout against Nate Marquardt at UFC 58. Since his last Octagon appearance, the 30-year old has won seven of eight bouts (all wins coming via submission or TKO), with his only defeat coming at the hands of current WEC middleweight champion Paulo Filho. In ‘Short Fuse’ Herman (15-4), Doerksen will be facing a hard-charging up and comer who is currently riding a two fight UFC winning streak.

Wow! I didn’t think the UFC could find a replacement for Herman that is as good as Doerkson. I was thinking Jeremy Horn, but Doerkson is a real tough dude and this should be a decent fight.

Doerksen’s a very tough dude and should be a very good fight. I was looking forward to Terrell’s return but this fight remains very interesting.

Wow! That was fast! This was a great move on the part of the UFC. Doerksen is a great fighter and a great match for Herman. This is definitely the best outcome of a bad situation for sure! This is still a great fight for sure!

I knew Terrell would get injured before this fight.

Barring injuries….Nate Mohr vs. Manny Gamburyan….

Not to hijack Accomando, but is this a real fight? I have been awaiting Manvel’s return to the Octagon since June.

I like the sounds of that Accomando. Joe Doerkson could beat “Short Fuse”. Herman hasn’t had such good lick in the octagon yet, but it will be a good fight. I would like to see Jeremy Horn back in the octagon. Haven’t seen him since he had his eye socket smashed by Chuck.

Accomando - Where did you hear of the rumors of Mohr vs. Gamburyan? Hadn’t heard of that ’til now.

I heard it at the IFL Grand Prix last night. Couture got mobbed after he cornered Jay Hieron to his win.

Anyway, I am not sure if the Mohr/Manny fight its signed yet, but I heard it could be a go in December.

Herman has been overrated since he got on the TUF show. He whined because Tito didn’t know who he was and picked Grove and others. I think he’s a good fighter, but never going to be more than good in the UFC’s syandards. This fight could help him a lot though.

I had the pleasure of seeing Gumby fight two months ago actually in Texas. He lost to Jorge Santiago or something like that in a triangle. Pedro Rizzo also knocked out Jeff Monson….it was kinda a cool fight.
