UFC 78 Draws Sellout Crowd

By: Kris Karkoski | Nov 19, 2007

Despite a highly-criticized card which lacked a title fight UFC 78 was still able to draw a sellout crowd of 14,071 fans to the newly opened Prudential Center in Newark on Saturday. The live gate raked in just north of 2-million dollars with initial estimates pegging it at $2.1 million.

I agree with you belly. I didn’t think this card was going to sell out, but it is very good news that it sold out, especially since the card was not very impressive and most importantly didn’t have a title fight.

I’ll be curious to see how the PPV numbers come in. I think the attendance is more a reflection buying into the UFC brand (tickets are usually on sale before the entire card is confirmed). I suspect the PPV numbers will be lower than what they normally average.

I was there, yes the card wasn’t impressive and a couple of the fights were boring, but it was good, especially the undercard fights. Overall they were better than the main card in my view. Definatly would’ve like a title fight, it would’ve capped off the evening just fine.

I’ll say it again. I wish they would have televised the Lytle/Alves fight. It should be a rule if an undercard gets fight of the night, they must televise it. I heard it was clearly the winner (for anyone who wants to say they don’t always decide that right away)
