Bisping To Debut at Middleweight Against McCarthy

20 December 2007 18 Comments

Michael Bisping will make his middleweight debut on March 8th in London against The Ultimate Fighter 4 participant Charles “Chainsaw” McCarthy. Sherdog reported the matchup earlier today after receiving word of the bout from sources within American Top Team where McCarthy train.

McCarthy (10-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) is 10-4 in his MMA career with a 1-1 mark in the UFC. He was defeated by David Loiseau at UFC 53 but was invited by the promotion to appear on the fourth season of The Ultimate Fighter. Though “Chainsaw” was defeated by Pete Sell during the series McCarthy was victorious on the live finale of the show defeating Gideon Ray with a first-round armbar. The win in late-2006 was his last professional fight.

Bisping (15-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) has been unimpressive in his last two Octagon bouts prompting him to move to the weaker and more-natural 185-lb. middleweight division. After squeaking by with a controversial split decision win over Matt Hamill at UFC 75 in September Bisping headlined UFC 78 in New Jersey against fellow-Ultimate Fighter winner Rashad Evans. In that fight Bisping was defeated by split decision suffering his first professional MMA loss.

    who?

UFC better find another manufactured British poster boy real quick. I smell an upset via armbar or triangle choke. If Silva could walk all over Franklin twice, imagine what he would do to the Count… OUCH!!

I think McCarthy has a good chance, and he knows this could be his last chance in the UFC. Go Charles. Upset by rear naked, round 2, 45 seconds in.

There is no way Bisping is gonna get choked by mcCarthy, not a chance, he will feel he has a lot to prove by droppin to 185lb, he will demolish him 1st round and start gettin more high profile middleweight fights, Come on the Count !!!!!!!!

i hope that bisping wins and can be a force in middle weight division.there seems to be a lot of people on here who dont like him maybe cos of the hamill decision.he didnt make the decision!!! i think he is good enough to be a top contender.

  • ravine said:

its not the desicion…its the fact that hamill won that fight clearly

  • johnboy said:

just like to correct u on that, dont no if u watched the fight but at the end of the match bispings hand got raised makeing him the winner, now stop going on about the past an look forward to the count becoming top dog in 185

Totally agree, with Johnboy and Ravine, all you Bisping haters just shut up and get over it, the old did he beat hamill or not saga is getting quite boring now, at least he tries to finish fights there are a lot more so called “top fighters “out there who bore me to tears!!!!

  • hoppy said:

Sorry i meant belly not ravine !!!!!!!

I lost a lot of respect for Bisping when he trashed Hamill like many of you. I was openly cheering for Evans, even though I had been a Bisping fan up until the Hamill bout. I’ve gotten over the comments he made and hope that he does well at 185. We really need some people who can step up in that division and perhaps he’ll be that person (I doubt it, but who knows).

It’s not just the fact of the decision.. its the trash bisping talked in the post fight interview. I think people respect those that respect others. How can you talk that much trash about someone when about 80% of MMA fans believe you clearly lost. I still think he has a tremendous upside.. Just as long as his mouth doesn’t get in the way.

  • belly said:

if you dont like trash talkers then you are watching the wrong sport! there are so many things said before and after a fight.its an emotional sport and i think a lot of what people say should be taken as being in the heat of the moment.not many fighters ever come out and say they were beaten after getting a decision people need to remember that.

  • johnboy said:

cant belive wat im reading people hate bisping for trash talking! if u go on likeing n dislikeing people over that then why u watching the sport cos evey1 trash talks it makes the fights more intresting if we belive the fighters dont like each other, aslong as they shake hands after a fight theres no harm done!!

  • eltz said:

    lets go mcarthy

  • Vampslayr said:

The dislike Bisping created was not trash talking prior to the match, it was afterwards. Many people, myself included, thought he lost the fight 29-28. Regardless of the outcome, he trash talked after the fight like he absolutely destroyed Hamill, which he definitely did not do (regardless of who you think won). When he did that, he alienated a lot of fans. I doubt anyone here has a problem with pre-fight trash talking. If you don’t believe you will defeat your opponent, then you’ve already lost. There is a huge difference between that and what Bisping did. That is what we’re referring to (hope that clears things up).
