UFC Fight Night 13: Stephan Bonnar Injured, Withdraws From Bout Against Hamill
UFC.com has issued the following statement announcing injuries to Stephan Bonnar and Patrick Cote that have forced them to withdraw from scheduled April bouts:
Recent knee injuries have forced light heavyweight contender Stephan Bonnar and middleweight standout Patrick Cote to withdraw from their April bouts. Bonnar was scheduled to face Matt Hamill on April 2nd’s UFC Fight Night card in Broomfield, Colorado. Cote was expected to compete on the UFC 83 card in Montreal on April 19th against an opponent to be determined. Replacements for Bonnar and for the Cote-TBD bout are expected to be announced shortly.
Yesterday MMAFrenzy.com passed along news that UFC newcomer Jason Day would be filling Cote’s spot on the UFC 83 preliminary card against Alan Belcher.
According to a report by Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports, Bonnar tore ligaments in his left knee while training jiu-jitsu and will be out a minimum of six months. He will undergo surgery “soon” in Los Angeles to repair the injured ligaments.
Stay tuned to MMAFrenzy.com for news on Bonnar’s replacement as soon as it is announced.

wish i wa kidding lowcash pritty **** init im begging to wonder if the fighters are training to hard??
Yet another fight I was looking forward to. It’s to bad, but also good because this is the same way Bonner got his steroid suspension last year (or 1 1/2 years) by wanting to heal quickly for an up coming event. This canaelation makes a little more cense than Cote’s sprain-but only the fighter really knows if they will be able to fight.
I don’t know if the fighters are trainning too hard, but they definately know how hard they have to train to be successful (and survive) in the octagon. Alot of it is hard trainning, but some of the injurys come from things like trainning injured or a cullmination of abuse to a limb over time. Most fighters will wait as long as possible to get surgery on a lame limb (i.e. “Shogun” Rua, Tito Ortiz, Rich Franklin) because they have bills to pay or don’t want to have to climb back up the ladder of rankings.
I hope this isn’t he end of Bonnar…
I know Rashad graduated from the ranks of fight nights but i would like to see him fight Hammill.
It’s unfortunate but as the steroid testing becomes stronger in 08 we are going to see alot of fighters start to pull out or get injured while training…Look at Baseball/Football…a ton of injuries…why? No more roids…all these guys have been juiced up at one point or another and their bodies are going to pay the price. Time to switch to the HGH fellas….get back in the fight…lol
I think Bonnar would have submitted Hamill but i really like Hamill…Perfect time to throw Boetsch at him..award him for taking a fight on short notice and destroying Heath..that would be two big boys going at it..
Although I did enjoy watching Boetsch throw Heath up against the fence and beat on him, Hamill would have his way with Boetsch rather easily. Both these guys are wrestlers, but Hamill is by far the superior. What about someone like James Irwin? I would love to see Hamill vs. Rashad though…
“…..James Irwin….”?????Did you mean Steve Irwin-He’s dead you know….LOL I think that James IRVING is already fighting on a card close to that night or that night.
P.S.If there is a James Irwin, sorry to him and Dale for being a douche bag.
P.S.S.Is it too soon for Crocidile Hunter jokes????
See, I new that would come back to bite me….. James IRVIN is fighting Houston Alexander at Fight Night 13. Houston should beat him, but we will see.
I called it (so did some others)Tim Boetsch steps in for Bonnar thanks for listening Joe Silva. Should be a good fight..
Boetsch just fought at 81. Ya i can see Silva scheduling a fighter for consecutive fights like 2 months apart.. Jackass..
Except tubekid is 100% right. As we reported earlier today, Boetsch will be taking on Hamill in April.
It’s absolutely not unheard of for a fighter to fight twice in two months in the UFC. Fighters in other promotions may fight much more often than once every two months. One example most people are probably familiar with is Roger Huerta who fought 5 times in 2007 including 4 fights in 7 months.
Not to mention that, from the sound of things, Boetsch stepped up for this fight. My question is if you’re healthy in hell not take a fight like this, especially if it does (though there’s not guarantee) stay on the televised portion of the card.
What’s up now hater? Where ya at now?? haha
You both are idiots. He will not be named the replacement.
