Marcus Davis, Paul Kelly Agree To Fight at UFC 89

By: Kris Karkoski | Jul 13, 2008

Marcus DavisMarcus Davis (14-4) will take on British fighter Paul Kelly (8-0) at UFC 89 on October 19th in Birmingham, England, according to MMAJunkie.com.

The fall fight will be Davis’ fifth consecutive bout in the UK after fighting in the country at UFC 72, UFC 75, UFC 85, and, most-recently, UFC 85 in June. A cast member on The Ultimate Figther 2, Davis left the UFC temporarily following an Ultimate Fighter 2 Finale loss to Melvin Guillard. After racking up five wins outside of the UFC Davis returned to the octagon in late-2006, winning six straight bouts over Forrest Petz, Shonie Carter, Pete Spratt, Jason Tan, Paul Taylor, and Jess Liaudin. In his last bout, Davis had his UFC win streak snapped, dropping a unanimous decision to Mike Swick at UFC 85.

In his UFC debut, Kelly defeated Paul Taylor via unanimous decision at UFC 80 in January.

Bout agreements have not yet been signed for the fight but both fighters have verbally agreed to the matchup.

    JOHNBOY,

I agree….both are pretty f-n cool. I am taking Davis in this one. I bet you a butty for a dwarf. I win, you send me a butty. If you win, I send you a dwarf.

    Lol!

Does anyone else feel that having the same fighters in every UFC in England is not very good?

I want to see different fighters, not the same ones recycled into different match-ups.

haha KOuch ur on i could use a dwarf he could get me my beer then i could rest it on his head till i need another drink

i agree SiMonsterD is gettin very predictable who will be fighing at the uk events.

I agree also we’ll have had 6 uk event come October and only one title fight in total and always the same faces, Bisping, Taylor, Kelly, Liaudin, Davies, Alves. Is a little variation too much to ask.

title fights would be hard to get because of the time difference in the states but i agree, lets mix it up a bit. davis wins this one but i’m anxious to see the bisping vs. leben bout. bisping is more skilled but leben has a good chin and heavy hands. should be a good one.

im not a fan of davis even though he a pretty good fighter.im going for kelly.
isnt that bisbings old team mate from the wolves layer or what ever?
to bad he dont come to america with the count and start to train,it would probaly make him better faster.

i wasnt impresses with his last fight they were a little boring but i know he has the potential to be exciting so we will weight for it

mike swick used to be so explosive he seems a little fizzeled out lately

  • SiMonsterD said:

We need new fighters over here. I see what they are doing, and ok, you do want some uk fighters when they are over here, but lets mix it up a bit!

I like all the Brit lads, and I like to watch Alves and Davis, but if this fightcard comes through I am only paying twice to watch the same fighters.

    Bring over some other names!!!!

Yeah - Mike Swick is looking a bit out of it recently. I think he should be at 185. A much more exciting fighter.

I agree 100% mate. I saw UFC 85 and this looks like almost the same flippin card ! I have got agood seat this time, almost ringside, so a few different names will be a refreshing change. You, I , or nobody is saying these guys are slackers, but please Dana, change the damn list as the UK events will turn crappy and just be known for “the same old faces” and crowds will not draw for them.
Sorry if this is off the subject slighly, but I like marcus Davis alot, but christ, I only just seen him last month, and bisping, and alves, and the list will probably get bigger. Sod it, how about they get Hughes over for a rematch??cos this is how the card is looking.
I just hope Davis gets more luck this time round as he is good, and UFC 85 was a bit of a duff night for him.

Any more brits agree with me, and simonster D ?
we need some DIFFERENT NAMES NOW AND AGAIN,

especially not one event straight after another.
why has Okami/Silva been dropped, Silva has not faught Irvin and may not be too injured, thus enabling him to fight in October.

  • Ryan-S said:

just read okami/silva is most likely confirmed, but willit be at ufc89 ?
    mmmmmmmm i hope so :)

    Ryan S & SiMonsterD

Its p*ss poor that we get the same fighters over and over, and you just know the week after ufc 89 the ufc 90 card will be loaded with great fighters we’d just love to see.

Mind you though guys, before last April we didn’t event get ufc event over here so its not all bad I suppose.
