Patrick Cote: I’m 100% Confident That I Will Win
UFC middleweight contender Patrick Cote appears to be wielding an almost inordinate amount of confidence toward his match up with much considered best in the world, Anderson Silva.

“I do this sport to be No. 1, so I can’t ask for more. To fight the best guy pound-for-pound in the world and to have a chance to get a title shot – it’s perfect,†said Cote. “I’m not scared of anybody – I said yes to fight Tito Ortiz on four days notice when I was in a different weight division, so to fight Anderson Silva is the ultimate goal for me. I want to be champion of my weight class.â€
Cote continued:
“I think I have the best style to fight this guy. I have a good chin, I’ll go forward, and I think every time he fights his opponent has already lost because he’s scared of him,†said Cote, who has never been knocked out in training. “I know that this guy is very, very good, but we have a good game plan for the fight, and I’m 100% confident that I will win.â€
I’ve always said that confidence is one of the most valuable commodities for a fighter, but does anyone, and I mean anyone, actually believe that Cote has a fraction of a chance at defeating Anderson Silva? I understand this fight is pretty much filler for Silva’s bout with Yushin Okami, which unfortunately had to be scrapped due to injury, but the more I read about how Patrick Cote thinks he has the right game plan to take Silva out, the more I can’t help but recall James Irvin’s oozing confidence leading into his bout with “The Spyderâ€, and we all know how that turned out.
Should we expect the same fate for Cote? Perhaps not in 61 seconds, but in the first round? Yea, that sounds about right.

I am expecting Silva to win, but at the same time I believe Cote has a chance (obviously unlike most people here). Cote has a good chin and knock out power, and in Silva’s fights he has always managed to knock his opponent out before taking a really good punch. What people seem to be forgetting (Eric included) is that this is MMA. “Should we expect the same fate for Cote? Perhaps not in 61 seconds, but in the first round? Yea, that sounds about right.” Cote has a chance, anyone fighting at this level has a chance when they step in the octagon, these guys are some of the best of the best.
Sure Silva is the favorite, I wouldn’t disagree with that, but if Cote happens to connect with a bomb will the Spider be able to absorb it or will he be knocked the F@#$ out?

Patricks “game plan” is no secret. He will try to get Anderson on the ground and gnp like Lutter and Henderson attempted. I’m sure Cote hits harder than Lutter so he thinks he can when the fight here. The problem comes when he can’t get/keep Silva down.

I still don’t understand how he got a title shot without ever fighting another top notch opponent in the division. He should have had to fight Henderson, Marquardt, Quarry, Okami, Franklin, or maybe even that bumb Bisping first! I know he’s on a 4 or 5 fight win streak but none of the guys he beat in my opinion were really title contenders.

Well put Joel B, Leben whooped up Cote a few years back after Cote’s fight with tito. Cote’s only credentials is he’s the guy who knocked down Tito when tito was on top a four win streak over guys that could be contenders down the line, but still this is MMA anything can happen, i just hope we don’t witness the first death in the UFC

You have to be confident or else there is no point to fight. You’ll get hurt thinking any other way. Then again, fighting Anderson Silva is a very easy way to get hurt no matter what you’re thinking. I am not sure Cote is thinking logically or seeing how in danger his well being is. Anderson Silva is God until further notice.

This will be a great fight, two highly confident fighters going at each other, one just happens to be 10X better than the other. UFC should of matched him up with another 205′er.

OK I was just reading down through some of this and people are comparing Cote Vs. Silva as to GSP Vs. Serra. These to fights and fighters are way different Silva doesn’t under estimate his opponent. Plus GSP doesn’t have the foot work or the chin like Silva does. Cotes problem with this fight is finding a range at which he can land safely ,which there isn’t one. If stands to far away he eats high and straight kicks if he comes in a little more eats Silvas punches. Then he comes into where he can land some punches Silva grabs a plum and your eatting knees. This fight should go to the ground cause if Cote wasn’t out classed on this feet he’s totally out classed on the ground

ACtually KOuch the biggest problem with the battle royal would be the whole team up thing. I don’t think Fedor could take all three which is probably what would happen. However, a nice tag team is badly needed in MMA. I can’t imagine how a REAL tag team match with the same rules would work…but I can tell you this…it would be bada$$.

Top 3 favs are easy. Randy, Fedor, Penn. I have never seen a fight from any of them that I didn’t enjoy…even if they lost they all gave great efforts.

Personally KOuch I am 50 50 on them. Cause there is no way to get an arm or leg lock on them which is almost like cheating. But on the other hand you can knee them in the face very easily, would they get to face other midgets or other fighters? I guess the only example is Manny Gamburian (sp?) he’s a borderline midget, I’ve met him in real life and I tower over him.
